Monday evening I get an unexpected text from former Bride, Lacey, to announce the latest and greatest thing in her life…and it was all of 7lbs 9oz and a whopping 19.75in long!!!! I was totally surprised, thinking she had at least another couple weeks. But I suppose babies come when they want to…unless they’re my babies, to which I threatened my doctor to remove them from my body ASAP. hahaha
I texted her back letting her know that if she was accepting visitors, I would really really really really like to come for a visit. To be honest, I am always a little hesitant to visit new mommies in the hospital because there is so much that goes on. I remember my first delivery, I told everyone they could come visit whenever they wanted…and as much as I appreciated the company and celebration of my little baby…I was exhausted, especially after the first night. My nurses were all very nice, but they were CONSTANTLY in and out of the room, along with hospital personnel…asking about birth certificate information, insurance information, safety procedures, hospital photographers, lactation consultants… yeah…I had everything packed and ready to leave hours before they officially discharged me. Lucky for me, things were much more organized and calmer for Lacey and Al…and they allowed me a peak at their new life. And OF COURSE, I took my camera. DUH! 🙂
Lacey and Al had come over for a small maternity session a few weeks ago (I will forever love that concept shot), and at one point, while Lacey was off for a clothing change, Al excitedly showed me images of the new nursery on his phone. They had amazing green walls and the theme of the decor was “King of the Jungle”. Al even said something like “he’s our little monkey”…and it was PERFECT! Previous to hearing this, I had already thought up a new concept shot for the baby Wyatt along a “lil monkey” theme. YES. YES. and YES. It was going to happen!
So…on the way to visit Al, Lacey, and baby Wyatt…I stopped in to a grocery store and gathered a BUNCH of bananas. A LOT of bananas. So much that I ended up buying a big reuse sack to carry them all. When I went to check out with a counter full of just bananas, the cashier looks at me funny and says “soooo…uh…you makin’ a bunch of banana splits or what?” …I said something clever like “nope. I just like my potassium.” 🙂 When I couldn’t hold a straight face any longer, I then explained I planned to put a newborn baby on top of the bananas for a picture. I’m not sure which explanation sounded more sane. Then, the guy in line behind me says, “Is it a girl?”. This guy is super tall and rough looking, like a biker, but he’s got this friendly grin on his face from ear to ear. I said no, that it was a boy. He replies, “Oh, I just figured you were going for a Chiquita banana theme.” I got sassy with him, put a hand on my hip and said “He’s a little monkey. Hellllooo.” hahahaha 🙂
Is he not the cutest little monkey EVER!!!!!! Sweet as can be, too. He was very calm while I was there…and I swear he was watching me take pictures of him at one point. They say that newborns can’t really follow things with their eyes yet…but I have witnesses who saw Wyatt tracking my camera when I was holding it up and away from me. Maybe he’s checking out the fabulous Canon technology…that would make a good commercial for Canon. yup yup
Congrats to Lacey & Al! You guys make one fine monkey. 😉
