Kansas City | Engagement | Paige + Dustin

It was mostly sunny, slight breeze, perfect temperature, and at the time of day where the light is like butter.  Recipe for  engagement portraits AMAZINGness!

Fields of kisses

The super handsome couple, Paige & Dustin, met me at the Johnson County Baseball Fields, which was right next to Shawnee Mission Park.  We had planned on doing the first half of the session at the ball fields to get some more casual portraits, and then move on to the park to find some neat nature areas.  Easy Peasy, right?   Wellllll…not so much, in our case.  First off….there really should be more public bathrooms/porta-potties in these types of places…or at least some substantially sized bushes.  Poor Paige quite possibly put on a show for passerby cars. HAHAHAHAHA

When we went to leave the ball park, we drove to the back gate and found it shut and locked.  So we turned around, drove to the front gate (which you see here…) …ummmm….uh oh!

IT WAS LOCKED TOOO!!!!  What gives!?!  I internally started to panic until I saw a car pull up.  It was a dad and son, arriving early for their baseball practice.  Whewwww… or so I thought!  Turns out, he did not have a key, had no idea why the gates were locked, and didn’t know who to call to have them come unlock them.  This picture below was taken about 20-30 minutes after first talking with the Dad through the fence.  The whole team had shown up…they couldn’t get in…we couldn’t get out…so this is them leaving….leaving us to be locked in all alone.  hahaha

This definitely was a first for me.  I mean, I totally admit that I’ve jumped fences to get IN to a place to photograph…but have never been LOCKED IN by someone on a shoot.

After waiting a good while longer, we were left with one last option…call the police.  Ek!  Here’s Dustin making the call.

It appeared the police were busy that day, so we spent the extra time getting more great images around the area.  🙂  I’m always gonna milk it when it comes to getting more pictures during that sweet sunset light.

Eventually, a woman arrived and unlocked the gate to let us out.  My initial reaction was to give a hug, thank her, and hug her again,… but even from a distance you could tell by body language (body language really does speak loudly) that she was in no mood to socialize.  A simple, quick thank you and wave, and we were on our way.

Next stop…That lookout tower at Shawnee Mission Park.  By this point the sun is setting in fast-forward motion.  I make a quick decision to do one awesome lit shot against the sunset.  In the meantime, Dustin and Paige noticed a group of teenagers at the top of the tower…who were openly smoking joints while watching us on the ground watching them.  I grabbed my camera too late, but here’s one kid still staring at us.  HAHAHAHAHAHA

Total crazy, bizarre session….and it was strangely crazy awesome!  I wouldn’t have changed a thing!  I had so much fun, and I suppose if I had to get locked into a place with clients, I couldn’t have been better off than with Paige and Dustin.

Ok…since I am out of town at the moment…and just found out that the internet we were promised did not come through…here is:
